Benefit for Het Kraaienest, new squatted social center in Groningen

Monday 21 February 2022, Benefit for Het Kraaienest, new squatted social center in Groningen. Volkseten Vegazulu. Food served from 6pm, no reservation.

Het Kraaienest is the new squatted social center in Groningen. The former café restaurant Het Heerenhuis on Spilsluizen was squatted around the new year, after almost 2 years of emptiness. Closed down during the first lock down, the restaurant never reopened. The owner hasn’t been granted permits to build housing. He already took the squatters to court and lost the case. Het Kraaienest blijft, yeah!
The doughy real estate investor behind Het Heerenhuis is Joshua Camera, chosen Slumlord of the Year 2018. He would have bought the building in May 2020, handing it over to straw man business partner Jaqcues van den Berg. Joshua Camera has already built up himself a disastrous reputation in Groningen.
During this benefit event, we’ll be talking about the Kraaienest, Zuiderkuipen, Akerkstraat and other squatted spaces around the city, with a short film and some pictures. What’s up with Rollend Goed, Het Wieland, Betonbos? The council has recently provided a temporary terrain to one group. Not only Groningen and Amsterdam have provided such terrains to squatters, Utrecht would be also tempted by the same move.
And by the way, Kraakspreekuur Groningen is back on track. Is this a sign of the times?

Volkseten Vegazulu is a people’s kitchens existing since the very beginning of Joe’s Garage, June 2005. Your donations are welcome. Food is vegan, no reservation. All benefits go to social & political struggles. Joe’s Garage is a space run by volunteers. Without a collective effort, without your active participation, we’re remaining closed. Get in touch in you feel like giving a hand. We’re always looking for cooks. Any help is welcome in the kitchen. Experience not required. If you want to know which days are still available, mail us.

An Introduction to the Esperanto Language, History and Community

Enkonduko al la Lingvo, Historio kaj Komunumo de Esperanto

Merkredo 10 novembro 2021, 19:00

Li ebligis ĝin kiel eble plej facile lernebla, sen neregulaj verboj, vortprovizo adaptita el latinlingvaj radikoj, kaj simpla, sengenra, preskaŭ senkasta gramatiko.

Ĉeestos ankaŭ kelkaj lertaj esperantistoj ĉe la evento, do vi havos ŝancon aŭdi kiel fakte sonas Esperanta konversacio!

Ho, kaj ankaŭ estos iom da manĝaĵo 🙂 […Lees verder]

What’s going on in Chile? Sunday 1srt March

Anarchist Group Amsterdam and Joe’s Garage collective are organizing two events in Amsterdam in solidarity with protests in Chile.

Chile is one of the wealthiest and unequal countries in Latin America at the same time. 1% of the population in Chile controls 26.5% of the country’s wealth, while 50% of low-income households access 2.1%.
Despite this fact, in October 2019 the Chilean government decided to increase public transport fares by 4% ignoring its social significance. It led to the protests and the biggest civil unrest having occurred in Chile since the end of Augusto Pinochet’s military dictatorship. People’s demands quickly grew from keeping public transport fares to more broad anti-neoliberal claims. The government replied with Excessive use of force. As of 26 October, 19 people have died, nearly 2,500 have been injured, and 2,840 have been arrested. Human rights organizations have received several reports of violations conducted against protesters, including torture, sexual abuse, and rape. According to Amnesty International, “the intention of the Chilean security forces is clear: to injure demonstrators in order to discourage protest.”. In fact, they didn’t succeed and protests are still happening until the present day.

To learn more about events happening in Chile and express your solidarity please come to our events:

Saturday, February 22, 18:00, Bollox, Eerste Schinkelstraat 14-16, Amsterdam – info talk from Chile/Belgian collective
Sunday, March 1, Joe’s Garage, Pretoriusstraat 43, Amsterdam – food and movie night

Striving for Autonomy! the Barricade 3rd anniversary

A promising event organized by The Barricade taking place at ACU, Voorstraat 71 in Utrecht on Sunday 1st December. The Barricade is a “volunteer-run collective inspired by raccoons and anarchism“, hosting a weekly sunday event at ACU.  https://thebarricade.noblogs.org/

The Barricade will be celebrating 3 years anniversary, Striving for Autonomy! and has already announced a full day of events, from vegan brunch to music, exhibition, a book presentation “The Barricade ABC” and various workshops, discussions such as “Reflection Tables on People’s Kitchens and Political Struggle”, “DIY: A collective toolbox against the supermarkets”, “Social Centers as basis for Counter-power”.

Reflection Tables on People’s Kitchens and Political Struggle https://squ.at/r/7gxy

A big part of what we’ve been doing for the past years, is hosting the anti-food waste dinner on Sunday evening. For us, providing people with a meal made from trash for free or donation is a political statement to address the problem of food waste and the importance of collective cooking and eating. We are not the only ones doing this, there are a lot of VoKus around in the Netherlands who organise meals or events out of the same political principles. We would therefore like to host reflection tables in the afternoon during Barriversary, to share experiences and start a reflection about the importance of food and collective cooking/eating. Info Night on the New Squatting Law

Wet of Geen Wet
Kranken gaat door!
Oppose the Proposal – Info Night on the New Squatting Amendment

Come to Joe’s Garage on 23rd September to eat a vegan meal and learn about the new squatting law and how it will affect squatting in Amsterdam and the Netherlands.

As you might have heard, some bastards politicians are scheming to change the squatting law, allowing them to pursue criminal eviction within 3 days by changing the legal procedures. This new law is called the Wet Handhaving Kraakverbod.

This is yet another attempt to protect the interests of rich and corrupt property owners at the expense of those fighting for fair housing rights for all. The law further criminalises squatters and making it more difficult for them to defend themselves in a court of law.

In 2010, the state tried to completely eradicate squatting by making it illegal. Now, a decade later, they still have to come up with pathetic ways to make our lives more difficult, because we are still here!
We did not let them win back then, we will show them we still won’t give up now!
Wet of geen wet..

Stay informed! Follow updates on this law proposal (and get united to resist it):

Mobilisation No Border Camp 2019

Monday July 29th 2019, Mobilisation No Border Camp 2019 during the Volkseten Vegazulu. 7pm, no reservation.

Last news and updates about the upcoming No Border Camp 2019 [http://no-border.nl/] which takes place from 1st till 4th august 2019 in Wassenaar at Huize Ívicke. The address is Rust en Vreugdlaan 2, 2243AS Wassenaar. The call out in various languages is available through this page. Talks and workshops are now publicly announced.

Restricting migration is a priority for the Dutch government and the EU. The walls of Fortress Europe are rising taller, rescue missions by aid organisations are counteracted, and refugees are locked up and deported. Thousands of people die in the Mediterranean Sea or in the desert, or they are stuck in horrible conditions. Politicians instigate hate against refuguees, while  weapons-companies are in the mean time making big money on militarising borders. Rich Western countries keep fueling the reasons why people flee through unequal trade, weapon exports, causing climate change, and military interventions.

Reason enough to take action. Come to the No Border Camp in the beginning of August, for workshops, meeting people and actions on a extraparliamentary and anti-authoritarian basis. To build bridges to other intersections of struggle, like anti-racism, decolonisation, queer- and trans struggle, climate action, anti-militarisation, and the struggle of migrants themselves for their rights.

The No Border Camp 2019 in the Netherlands will take place from August 1-4. The location will be announced just before the start of the camp due to safety reasons. It will take place in the provice of Zuid-Holland in the Netherlands. Keep an eye on the website or send an email to be updated about the location! If you want to help with the organisation of the camp or just one or two small tasks, please also send us an email! If you want to help us out financially, you can make a donation to the bankaccount that’s on the poster. Everything (both financially and organisation-wise) is  very much appreciated.

Joe’s Garage is always looking for cooks. Any help is welcome in the kitchen. Experience not required. Enjoying it is a must. If you want to know which days are still available in the schedule, send an email to joe [at] lists [dot] squat [dot] net and book yourself the night. You can, of course, also participate by rolling up your sleeves and doing the dishes.
