Thursday June 26th 2014: Benefit for ‘We Are Here’, Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm.

The European union and its member states make the life of refugees in the union as well as at its frontiers unbearable. The maintenance of the Dublin agreements, obliges asylum-seekers to pose their asylum-demand in the first country they enter. Many people are trapped in countries that are not able to offer protection for individuals. Also in Holland (thanks Teeven..), the situation is bad. Basic services to refugees are mostly not given, they don’t have access to shelter, food, education, medical care and clothes.

The city of Amsterdam (van der Laan) doesn’t really help the refugees and denies them basic rights by just putting them out of the streets with NOTHING. At the moment, there are two courtcases still running. The results will come out on the 4th of july. The court cases are about Vluchthaven, where 114 refugees are living and Ten Katestraat 61 and 63 where mostly women live.

This month, a march was held from Germany to France, with finishing point in Brussels, where on the 26th of June, a big demonstration will take place against the top of European leaders on migration. All refugees deserve human treatment, respect and freedom of movement.
