Benefit for climate & Reclaim the Fields camp

Thursday December 12th 2013, Benefit for climate & Reclaim the Fields camp, Volkseten Vegazulu, 7pm

Last august/september a climate action camp against lignight mining took place in the German area Rhineland, near to Cologne – where energy giant RWE (Rheinisch-Westfälisches Elektrizitätswerk AG)caries out immense coal mining operations – replacing hectares of urban and natural environment (life) for 3 devastating big dirty, dead black gaps in the ground (the biggest holes of Europe dug by mankind) and keeps ongoing with daily destructive polluting activity.

Primary forest (see: hambachforest.blogsport.de), entire villages and agricultural land are being destroyed to dig the mine, besides this lignite is the dirtiest type of coal: the coal burners in Rhineland are annually responsible for over 100million of CO2 emissions.

During the camps there was an extensive program of workshops, discussions, presentations and several actions: a massive blockade of the train for coal transport, house occupations in the yet partly expropriated village of Manheim and sabotage actions on the mining activities by small autonomous groups. This benefit is needed to be able to organise another climate camp in Rhineland next year!

All year through ausgeco2hlt (www.ausgeco2hlt.de), a platform of local action groups, is doing actions against the megalomaniac state and corporative destruction, the occupation of the Hambacher forest by activist -who are now facing threat of eviction!- is another example (more info: Joes benefit at 2 December, or hambachforest.blogsport.de)-

Reclaim the fields (reclaimthefields.org)is an European wide constellation of peasants, landless and prospective peasants, as well as other people who are taking back control over food production. The aim is to stimulate decentralized, needs-based, collective and autonomous alternatives to global industrial capitalism.

The climate & Reclaim the Fields camps in the summer in Cologne and elsewhere are a way to include more people to the struggle, on national and international level, strengthen the grass-roots movement by active solidarity, exchange of green alternatives and ways of resistance, and do massive actions.

Come to next years climate camp! Come to support the Hambacher resistance now, and come to eat at Joe’s!
