November 2012 Joe’s Garage program

Get ready, a European Strike is announced for November 14th. Would governments fear a global insurrection? The deepening crisis is spreading like a plague. Chaos hasn’t reached the Netherlands yet. The Dutch government has never spent so much money on security per capita as now. Travelling anonymously is becoming a luxury. Your moves and communications are being traced, recorded and analysed. And you still worry about your privacy?
Another fear is visible, in Greece. The one for every migrant walking in the street. Golden Dawn has infiltrated all layers of society. The myth of a superior race hasn’t yet vanished. International solidarity is more needed than ever for Greece for those fighting fascism and facing repression on a daily basis. In the Netherlands, migrants are building camps in cities. There is lots of work to be done in front of your own door. Your active participation at Joe’s Garage is also welcome. Choose your day.

This month, Joe’s goes out again, to the Bajesdorp Festival and to the Krugerplein to celebrate a sustainable Transvaalbuurt. Further, you can drop by on a benefit night; for Migrant Protest Camps, for the Free Mumia Abu-Jamal Campaign, for the people getting arrested on November 14th, for the Roomtuintje Oostbos and for the ZAD in France. You can inform yourself about Zapatistas at the Infonight Zapatista Indigenous Communities in Chiapas, or you can join the cosy cinema on sunday night with Loners, Freedom Ahead or Jonas will be 25 in the year 2000. Joe’s Garage is open six days a week, thanks to you.

Saturday 03 november: Joe’s Garage Goes Bajesdorp.
Pretoriussatraat will remain closed as Joe’s is migrating for one day to the Inside Out Festival at Bajesdorp http://www.bajesdorp.nl, starting from 14pm till 22pm. Do your free shopping at Bajesdorp!

Sunday 04 november: Movie night, Loners (David Ondříček, Czechoslovakia, 2000, 103 min, english subtitles). Door open at 20pm (films start at 21:00pm)
A generation comedy directed by David Ondříček (and written by Petr Zelenka) developing several interconnected stories of young people living in present day Prague, for various reasons they are unable to cross beyond the confines of their own egos and effect deep relationships. The narrative consists of many bizarre comic motifs, which sometimes overshadow the serious main subject. The film was very popular among young Czechs, thanks also to its use of modern music and catchy phrases.

Saturday 10 november, Joe’s Garage Goes Krugerplein. “Kom naar het Krugerplein! Krugerplein Festijn, 14.00 – 20.00 uur.

Jonas will be 25 in the year 2000 (Jonas qui aura 25 ans en l’an 2000), Directed by Alain Tanner, 116 minutes, In French with English subtitles. There are a few films which for me are almost like good friends. Films that few other people know about, but which I have seen dozens of time, and which warms my heart and stimulates my creativity every time I see it. JONAS is one of those rare films.

Thursday 15 november, 19:00pm, Volkseten Vegazulu, 14N, Vaga General Benefit.

Sunday 18 november, Movie night: Freedom Ahead, documentary from Greetje Mulder and Rogier van der Voort, (76 minutes, 2011, english spoken). Door open at 20pm (films start at 21:00pm).
In the documentary film Freedom Ahead we visit the people who are the conscience in a world which is losing its moral principles. These people regain control over their lives by being independent and living self-sufficiently. By doing so they obtain the highest valued asset of all times: real freedom. This collection of committed individuals does not constitute a movement. It is dispersed and fiercely independent. It is taking shape in universities, elementary schools, farms, communities and many other places.

Thursday 22 november, 19:00, Volkseten Vegazulu, Roomtuintje Oostbos Benefit.
“We are a group of concerned individuals who have decided to take matters into our own hands by finding a waste land and bringing new life to it… ‘Roomtuintje Oostbos’ was liberated from uselessness on July 15th 2012 when the clean up began and the first gardens were built. On the same day the appartments above the coffeeshop were opened and are now occupied by a group of young people.”

Sunday 25 november, Diner & Infonight Zapatista indigenous communities in Chiapas, opening time: 19:00 with food. Infonight: 20:00.
After the fraudulent national elections of July 2012 and the reestablishment of PRI in the governance of Mexico, dignity and autonomy have been severely struck. Among the sufferers, many Zapatista communities in Chiapas and their supporters, the majority of which are indigenous people, have being experiencing threats, assaults, displacements, and any form of violence from the federal Mexican state’s authorities, mostly under the guise of various paramilitary groups.

Monday 26 november, Volkseten Vegazulu, ZAD Benefit, 19PM
The struggle against a new airport near Nantes, in Notre Dames des Landes, is far from over. Evictions on the ZAD started on October 16th 2012 with an outrageous show of police and military force. People have been resisting this project for years, occupying houses, land and trees. From their communique, the ZAD is not ready to give up. “Als ze ons ontruimen komen we terug!”  [..
